Tehachapi State Prison Reform Project In February of 2008, I was invited to speak at the California Corrections Institute in Tehachapi CA. A maximum security prison holding 6,000 inmates. The prison has been overwhelmed with violence, crowding and classic prison management difficulties. Based on current research and my direct experience with acupuncture and meditation and their effective use in behavior modification, I recommended that the state institute a 10-day course in Vipassana meditation for their correction officers and eligible inmates. With great deliberation and courage, the staff and leaders of the prison have worked hard to overcome many obstacles and will initiate the program in December of 2008. Wellness Development Committee Island Hospital We are in the process of reviewing the current needs of our patients and looking for ways to update and enhance the services offered to the general community.

Skagit Hospice Foundation As a new member of the board, I was honored to participate in our annual fundraiser that brought 200,000 dollars of funding to the direct services of our hospice program.

Northwest Vipassana Center I currently serve as the president of our non-profit trust. We are excited have completed the construction for the new men's dormitory and anticipate that the new female dorm will be completed during 2010. The center offers open enrollment to all applicants interested in learning meditation techniques, regardless of economic status.

Medicine Women Gather this is an on-line blog detailing my study of herbal medicine of the Pacific NW. I am the co-founder of the project and a regular contributor to the site.
